Brambleton Middle School

Due to the fast-paced growth in student enrollment and the pressing need to create high-quality educational space efficiently, Loudoun County Public Schools relies on the use of prototype schools that can be site-adapted to multiple locations. MTFA designed this new middle school prototype by organizing the public spaces along a central spine at the front of the school flanking two instructional wings. The design was intentionally developed so it can be easily site-adapted to respond to differing site constraints while maintaining continuity of circulation, outdoor gathering spaces, playing fields, and service.

The first iteration of this new prototype design became Brambleton Middle School, a new middle school located in the Brambleton community of Loudoun County. The school features a glass entry plaza which creates a welcoming entrance while also allowing for added security and oversight. The lobby and pre-function spaces provide a place for student commons during the school day and public use space after hours. The classroom wings are organized by grade level to allow for age-appropriate educational and emotional growth through the students’ time in the school.
