MTFA Architecture is a full-service firm which offers extensive experience and expertise in all phases of professional architectural design, building evaluations, planning, renovation, contract documents, and construction administration. Established in 1989, MTFA has grown steadily to serve our clients’ needs for religious, educational, and institutional projects. Our best work often comes out of impossible demands filled with conflicts, challenges, and unrelenting rules. We facilitate a transformative programming and design process using proven techniques, tested and refined over decades. Our process, appropriately applied to each unique situation, embraces established values and challenges assumptions. We prioritize what is most relevant, develop strong ideas, and reconcile diverse needs into coherent and elegant solutions. Our design process brings visions to life.
Heritage
Our legacy is rooted in cultural preservation and sustainable design. We embrace a building’s history and environmental context while reconciling the needs of our changing world through resilient innovation and sculptural expression. We grew out of the modernist lineage of Cooper-Lecky Architects, the Washington, DC successor of renowned mid-century architect Eero Saarinen. Our expertise in preservation grew by collaborating with and then acquiring one of the nation’s most prominent historical preservation firms, John Milner Associates Preservation. MTFA continues to build on the synergy of these legacy values to enrich all of our projects to define place, serve community, and transcend time.
